A Relaxing Saturday in Salt Lake City, Utah

When you have a day off, you could spend it like me and stay curled up on your couch, reading or typing away. However, sometimes you really need a day to pamper yourself, outside of your own home. If you have a Saturday off, make sure to spend a relaxing day in Salt Lake and see what gems the city has to offer.

Brunch at The Rose Establishment

It’s your day off, so don’t get up too early. When you do wake up, be sure to head over to get yourself some brunch at The Rose Establishment.

The Kura Door

Your day of relaxation officially begins here. Kura Door is an amazing Japanese themed spa with some excellent treatment options. Make sure to call ahead to book your appointment. I would definitely recommend the ofuro bath, followed by one of their signature massages. Is it a bit of a splurge? Sure. But it’s your day, so treat-yo-self.

Your day of relaxation and pampering wouldn’t be complete without getting your nails in tip top shape. The Kura Door offers some incredible manicure treatments including their warm buttermilk and brown sugar manicure. If you want a less expensive option “Nailed!” is a cozy, neighborhood establishment with some excellent reviews and a range of treatments starting at $20.

Lunch and Shopping at City Creek Mall

Now that you’ve taken the time to relax and look your best it’s time to go shopping, and grab a bite. Check out City Creek’s food court for a small bite (gotta save room for dinner). I recommend grabbing something from either Bocata or Taste of Red Iguana. If you’re looking for some other options for food Brook over at Female Foodie has some excellent suggestions for City Creek dining.

Dinner at Takashi

This Japanese restaurant is me and my husband’s favorite restaurant in all of Salt Lake. We will look for almost any excuse to eat at Takashi. They don’t accept reservations so you will almost certainly have to wait. Don’t worry about the wait it’s totally worth it. It’s within walking distance of City Creek Mall so we typically put our name down on the list and  walk around the mall until it gets close to our time to be seated.

If you’re wary of sushi, never fear, Takashi has plenty of other options to choose from. I love their age-dash tofu and vegetables tempura as a starter. For nigiri sushi you can’t go wrong with unagi, and classic sake. I personally love the uni (sea urchin) but it’s not for everybody. Favorite rolls include the Sunshine and the T&T roll.

If you’re not a fan of sushi their Soki Soba is amazing, and they have an excellent variety of Large Plates to choose from. They have some unique desserts and a wide variety of Japanese alcohol and non-alcoholic mocktails.

Not feeling the options at Takashi? Or just waiting for your stomach to make a bit of room for some sugary goodness before  you call it a day? Never fear. Here you can get your fill of delicious cookie dough, shakes with cookie dough, or slightly baked cookie dough with ice cream on top.
